Yes, all vehicles up to 3.5 t must display a valid Autobahnvignette on motorways and expressways. Digital vignettes are also available via the ASFINAG app.

What is the speed limit on Austrian motorways?

The general limit is 130 km/h, though some sections have variable limits displayed on overhead signs.

Are winter tyres mandatory in Austria?

Winter tyres are situationally mandatory when roads are icy or snow-covered. The requirement applies from 1 November to 15 April on certain roads.

Which alpine passes are typically closed in winter?

The Großglockner Hochalpenstraße, Silvretta Hochalpenstraße, and several other high passes close between October/November and May/June.
